DWD

German National Meteorological Service

Offenbach

As the national meteorological service of the Federal Republic of Germany the DWD is responsible for providing services for the protection of life and property in the form of weather and climate information. It has extensive systematic meteorological records from Germany and the rest of the world at its disposal and uses observational techniques such as weather stations, weather radar and weather satellites. This global data is the basis for both weather forecasts and official warnings as well as climate monitoring, research into adaptation to climate change and climate consulting.  At the same time, the weather and climate data are the basis for many research projects, which are either carried out by the DWD itself or which are implemented by scientific institutions with its support.
