The climate research landscape in Germany is a diverse and in part highly segmented environment, involving many stakeholders: federal authorities, states, the institutes of the Helmholtz Association, the Leibniz Association and the Max Planck Society, universities, cooperative institutions and companies. They all contribute to climate research. The climate protection goals of the German national climate policy focus on protection of the world’s climate at national, regional and local levels in the context of international climate policy. The climate protection goals influence the practical development of climate policy at all levels. They are often enshrined in law or are respected as politically binding. The DKK summarises the topics of climate research and climate protection goals clearly.
