Africa Drought Policy Conference

Windhoek, Namibia

Convened in follow up to the High-Level Meeting on National Drought Policy in 2013, this international conference is co-organized by the Government of Namibia and its partners, including the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) and the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). The conference will facilitate the development of a strategic framework to improve drought resilience in Africa, as part of efforts to enhance implementation of the Paris Climate Agreement, as well as decisions adopted at the 12th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the UNCCD in October 2015. The High-Level Meeting on National Drought Policy was established by the 16th session of the WMO Congress in 2011 with the aim of supporting science-based actions to address drought-related issues and creating more drought-resilient societies.
