The CSS is an interdisciplinary research center of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences at Universität Hamburg. The center aims to broaden the understanding of social and economic institutions and processes of modern societies with regard to sustainability. It is particularly concerned with the societal reconfigurations induced by climate change, which are regarded as central drivers of sustainability transformations. The common focus of research at CSS is on the conditions and perspectives of a “society of sustainability” that combines ecological responsibility with a focus on social justice and democratic legitimacy. Contributions from the social sciences and economics therefore contribute to climate research in an important and innovative way.
