Next Frontier Debate: At the Melting Point
A heated debate during Berlin Science Week at HU Berlin with DKK Managing Director Marie-Luise Beck and three other experts about global warming and how the 2°C climate target can be achieved in a just and sustainable way.
The effects of climate change have long become perceptible: melting of the poles, increase in extreme weather conditions, droughts, and floods. Human beings are the cause for this, artificially fuelling the earth’s natural greenhouse effect with their consumption of resources.
At the Paris Climate Change Conference (COP21) in December 2015, 195 countries signed a global climate agreement for the first time. It provides for limiting global warming to a maximum of 2° C above pre-industrial levels.
There is no simple answer to how this target can be reached. The complexity of the problem rather necessitates bringing different approaches together. As part of the Next Frontier Debate scientists from various disciplines and practitioners will discuss the current state of research, its applicability, and prospects.
The Debate is part of Berlin Science Week, which takes place from 1st until 10th november 2017 with more than 50 events and meetings with different formats.
